Welcome to the WDYRLN Blog

Do you love reading? Cullman City Schools is using our WDYRLN reading program to build a true joy of reading in our students through art, music, discussion, and reading, reading, reading! We have just ended our first year of this program and can't wait to see what the new year holds. Schools too often focus on teaching reading but lose sight of the need to create lifelong readers who read because they love it. This program wants to give them opportunities to not just learn to read but also to share the things they read that they love. Join us in our quest for happy, excited readers and share your ideas with us.

Summer Reading for Teachers

I've just finished The World Is Flat, the book provided by Dr. Harris for Cullman City teachers to read this summer. I could almost literally feel my mind expanding as I considered new ideas as I read. This is such a powerful book that I feel anyone who wants to be truly literate will need to be familiar with The World Is Flat. On a daily basis, I see something in the news, in a book I'm reading, or a commercial I'm watching that echoes ideas that I first considered while reading this book. What a wonderful gift.
